Take a Turn at the Carousel
This year's Qwest Carousel at Westlake Park will benefit Treehouse! Help out by volunteering for a four-hour shift at the carousel (greet visitors, sell and collect tickets, help the horses go up and down) between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. Tutor

Our current openings for volunteer tutors are in the new Treehouse Learning Centers in Tukwila and Federal Way.

Tutors help foster kids succeed in school by working one-on-one with students who, through no fault of their own, lag behind their peers academically. The Treehouse tutoring program places volunteer tutors in public schools and in our after-school and school break programs to provide weekly tutoring in basic skills such as math, science and English.

Coaching-to-College Coach

We've put coach recruitment on hold for a while since we've reached the maximum number of student-coach matches we can support. We hope to start recruiting coaches again in January of '09.

This innovative program teams volunteers with foster youth to help them navigate the daunting road to post-secondary education. Coaches are mentors who help high school students deal with the nuances of scholarships, applications, deadlines, essays, SAT/ACT preparation and financial aid.

Wearhouse Assistant

Help out in The Wearhouse, our free store where foster kids and families shop for new and like-new merchandise (clothing, books, toys, accessories and more). Volunteers sort, tag and organize donations; help at the register; stock the store; and work on special projects. Weekday Wearhouse volunteers must commit to working 25 hours over the course of three months, and Saturday volunteers must commit to one shift per month. Shifts are available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.;  Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Receptionist

Make a positive first impression with our clients, visitors and students by volunteering at our reception desk. Volunteers answer the phones, greet guests, answer general questions, and provide administrative office support for our programs. This position is ideal for a reliable volunteer who can offer a consistent schedule, has basic computer skills, excellent phone etiquette, and good customer service skills. Volunteers must commit to one regular noon-to- 5 p.m. shift each week.

Drive Host

It's a sad fact that local foster kids often lack the most basic clothing—things we take for granted, like new underwear, socks, pants, and shoes. Drive hosts bring out the best in their communities by giving neighbors, friends and coworkers the opportunity to help. Nearly three-quarters of the items in the Wearhouse come from individual donors through our seasonal drives, making drive hosts true partners in our work.

Driver

Treehouse regularly receives requests to pick up donations for The Wearhouse. Volunteer Drivers use their own vehicles to deliver these donated items to Treehouse. Depending on the donation site and the volunteer’s schedule, a Volunteer Driver may work on a weekly, monthly or on-call basis.

Special Events and Projects

Throughout the year, needs arise for special projects and/or events involving specific skills. We may need help with researching state policies, creating new strategies for expanding programs, or processing a large mailing. Our special event volunteers help at fundraising events, with phone calls, etc.
