Coaching-to-College
Many foster kids believe that college is for somebody else.
Foster children are far less likely than their peers to finish high school, and fewer than two percent go on to earn a bachelor’s degree. Coaching-to-College starts planting the seeds for college early, delivering a clear and consistent message to foster kids: college is for you.
College dreams start early.
Our Middle School Coaching-to-College program holds ongoing group workshops across King County – at schools, in group homes and elsewhere – that encourage foster kids to start dreaming about future careers and mapping out plans to get there.
Coaches are mentors and champions.
Our High School Coaching-to-College program engages foster youth one-on-one with volunteer mentors who guide and support their academic aspirations and keep them on track as they navigate the daunting road to postsecondary education. Coaching-to-College also holds workshops to help with standardized testing, essay writing and other skills that are essential to accessing higher education.
Foster Care Fact
Nationally, only 3% of former foster kids complete a bachelor's degree, compared to 28% of the general population.
